The Momentous Events of March 5th, 2022
An Egg and a Worm
We lulled a maybe-about-to-hatch giant egg back into quiescence with the power of lullabies!
But then Beffa laid hands on it and that un-lulled it back out of quiescence
Then Beffa's canoe valiantly sacrificed itself to try to save the egg from pitching into a magic pool of acid
But that did not succeed, and the egg hatched into a giant flying worm (but not, evidently, a wyrm, which is different)
Fighting and fleeing ensued, Big Mama Felto deployed the Zither of Resonance to great effect
Somehow neglected to discuss the Great Goat with the worm (might need to circle back, seems like a potential convert)
A Giant Blue Octopus Named Zitch (wearing a night cap, this is important)
Walking for a long time underground ensued
Eventually they came upon the roots of a giant tree (“the up-tunnel”). Being generally dedicated to the craft of climbing things they come across, the party decided to climb it
Despite not having any half-elves in the party, miraculously a secret door was found!
Stones were rolled, and offered up to placate a grumpy Zitch
Makalbly Jane reshaped stone into identical stone a few feet to the left to gain access to a door
She somehow neglected to discuss the Great Goat with Zitch (might need to circle back, seems like another potential convert)
Leaving through the door led to more walking underground, which eventually led to a trap door back into the non-underground (more colloquially known as “ground”)
A Pondside Tragedy / Cliffhanger
From their vantage at the trap door, the Worst Party could see a nearby pond. Some skeletal riders soon rolled up, escorting the same prisoner Makalbly Jane had seen forcibly marched away from Algebo a while back
The party split into a pond-going maybe-stealthy rescue team and a stay-in-the-trap-door-and-be-safe team
Faced with the quandary of whether or not the ability to 100%-chance-to-destroy-skeletons when turning undead would apply to skeletal warriors, the spirit of righteous curiosity got the better of Makalbly Jane, and she put the Nearly-All-Compelling Power of the Goat to the test. It did not work.
Jeumes was also infused with the Spirit of the Goat and also tried his hand at turning – and rolled a 20! – but alas, the only effect was to elicit a chuckle from one of the skeletal warriors, and then a tragically fatal blow. RIP Jeumes! :(
Beffa burned a bridge, which got some skeletal warriors wet, but otherwise seemed to accomplish very little
Makalbly Jane rescued the mayor Frashler Catherine from evident sacrifice to a giant possum-looking-thing.
Chaos on all sides! Flaming spheres, flaming arrows, hiding behind rocks, etc.
Makalbly Jane and Frashler Catherine fled from the pond to the nearby woods – but alas two halflings on foot are (at least according to “the rules”) considerably slower than skeletal riders on skeletal horses. They were quickly overtaken, and now more fighting seems immanent…
Will they survive this encounter? Or will this turn out to be the sort of “rescue” which just gets you killed in a different fashion?!
